BPS: Unemployment Increases, Vocational School Graduates are Dominating

TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Central Statistics Department (BPS) recorded the number of open unemployment in August 2019 amounting to 7.05 million people, an increase from August 2018 which was only 7 million people.
In his presentation, the Head of the Central Statistics Department, Suhariyanto said, the level of open unemployment (TPT) was dominated by graduates of Vocational High Schools (SMK) by 10.42 percent in August 2019.
"The highest unemployment rates are those with vocational education," said the Head of BPS, Suhariyanto, in Jakarta, Tuesday (11/05/2019).
In addition to vocational schools, high school ranks in second with a percentage of 7.92 percent, followed by diploma I / II / III as much as 5.99 percent, universities 5.67 percent, junior high school 4.75 percent, and elementary school 2.41 percent.
Although dominated by SMKs, Suhariyanto said that the dominance decreased when withdrawn from August 2015. In August 2018, the number of unemployed SMKs was only 11.24 percent and then dropped to 10.42 percent in August 2019.
The population of working age in Indonesia is 197.91 million people. That number increased compared to the same period last year of 194.78 million people.
In line with the addition, the work participation rate also increased from 66.67 percent to 67.49 percent in August 2019.
"The workforce is dominated by men by 83.13 percent in August 2019, women only around 51.89 percent. Then, the growth of the female workforce is also slow compared to men. In the period August 2018-August 2019, an increase of only 0, 01 percent while men 0.44 percent, "Suhariyanto said.
In addition, in August 2019, the employment structure also experienced a transition. Over the past year, said Suhariyanto, the number of workers in agriculture has decreased 1.46 percent.
