TRIBUNBATAM.id - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) stopped flights to Timika to anticipate the spread of Corona in the Timika area and the project area. In addition, Freeport also limits the movement of personnel from the lowlands to the highlands.
In an official statement received by Kompas.com, Thursday (2/4/2020), this has been done by Freeport since March 26th.
As for cargo flights, transport of medical personnel, sending blood samples and other medical aspects, it is still carried out to meet the basic needs of the community and employees in Timika and Tembagapura, by maximizing local health protocols.
"The flight permit out of Timika was granted by the Regional Government only for the purpose of evacuation for medical reasons recommended by doctors," explained VP of Corporate Communications of Freeport Indonesia, Riza Pratama.
In addition, PTFI also stopped buying or booking airplane tickets to Timika for employees, contractors and family members who came to the PTFI project area with commercial airlines.
This step was taken as a form of company support for the directives and policies of the Mimika Regent of Papua Province in preventing, controlling and overcoming Covid-19 in the Mimika Regency.
"Covid-19 is a pandemic that requires the collaboration of all parties in its control. We strongly support policies issued by the government and are ready to participate in them, "continued Riza.
Some of these include spraying disinfectants on the cargo carried, measuring body temperature to all parties involved in the flight process, and equipping flight crews with complete personal protection equipment. (*)
