He also asked the public to pray that all crew members were found safe.
"I invite all Indonesian people to pray that this search and rescue effort will be carried out, that it will be easier to find KRI Nanggala-402 and all its crew members are safe," Jokowi said via the Presidential Secretariat YouTube broadcast, Thursday (4/22/2021).
Jokowi said that currently the TNI Commander and Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) are directly leading searches in the field.
He admitted that he had ordered the Commander of the TNI, KSAL, Basarnas, together with other relevant agencies to exert all strength in carrying out searches and rescue.
"The main priority is the safety of 53 crew members," said Jokowi.
Jokowi also admitted that he really understood the feelings of the family of the crew.
Therefore, he promised, search and rescue efforts would be carried out as optimally as possible.
The ship made in Germany in 1979 is thought to have lost contact about 60 miles or 95 kilometers from the Bali sea.
The TNI commander, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, said that the ship had lost contact, shortly after obtaining permission to dive. (*)
