TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Batam Mayor Muhammad Rudi signaled that the Emergency PPKM in Batam would be extended.

As stated in Circular (SE) Number 32 of 2021 concerning Emergency PPKM in Batam, this rule is effective from July 12 and will end on July 20, 2021.

Previously, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy said that the Emergency PPKM would be extended until the end of July 2021.

However, the Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, still cannot confirm whether the implementation of the Emergency PPKM will be extended or not. 

He said his decision was following orders from the central government.

However, Rudi considered that the Emergency PPKM might be resumed until the end of July 2021, considering that the Covid-19 cases in Batam hadn't decreased. 

Previously, his party had attended a coordination meeting with ministers, which was also attended by the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri), Coordinating Minister (Menko) for the Economy, and the Minister of Religion, regarding the discussion on the extension of the Emergency PPKM.

He revealed, the possibility of the Emergency PPKM will be extended until August 2, 2021.

However, he added that the discourse was still under discussion, and there was no definite legal basis. 

The Batam Covid-19 Task Force noted that there were 495 new cases of Covid-19 in Batam on Saturday (7/17/2021).

The trend of the increasing cases of Covid-19 in Batam started on July 14, 2021. 

On July 14, there were 213 cases, then 266 cases on July 15, 417 on July 16, and 495 cases on July 17, 2021. 

On July 17, 251 patients recovered and 12 people died.
