TRIBUNBATAM.id - Kupang BMKG Geophysics Station recorded dozens of earthquakes in the East Nusa Tenggara region in a week. 

"There were 32 earthquakes starting from December 3-9, 2021," said Head of BMKG Kupang Geophysics Station Margiono, to Kompas.com, Friday (12/10/2021).  

Margiono detailed that of the 32 earthquakes, one of which was felt by residents, namely an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 in East Flores Regency, Wednesday (12/8/2021) in the morning.

According to Margiono, earthquakes in this period were dominated by small earthquakes with a magnitude of less than 4.

The earthquake was shallow, less than 60 kilometers.

He said most of the earthquakes occurred in the Sumba Island area.

"Most of the earthquakes occurred in the Sumba area, however, all areas in NTT Province are actually in an earthquake-prone zone," he said.

Margiono also asked NTT residents to prevent the spread of hoaxes related to the earthquake and tsunami by always updating information from the BMKG.
