Amidst Rainfall Batam City Journalists Hold Solidarity Action, Reject Violence Against Journalists
Batam City Journalists held solidarity action to foster rejection of violence against journalists for remind the police at Dataran Engku Putri, Batam.
TRIBUNBATAM.id - Even though it was rained, it did not dampen the efforts of Batam City Journalists solidarity action to foster a rejection of violence against journalists.
Using banners and various attributes that read the rejection of violence against journalist violence, dozens of journalists consisting Alliance of Independent Journalists, Indonesian Photo Journalists, Indonesian Television Journalists Association and Indonesian Cyber Media Association called for press freedom.
Alternately shouting in a loud tone that journalists must be free from all intimidation witnessed by police under the rain at Dataran Engku Putri, Batam Center, Monday (09/30/2019).
"14 journalists in various regions have been violated by police while carrying out their journalistic duties. For this reason, we ask the authorities to protect journalists," he said.
This solidarity action, he said as an effort to remind the police to be able understand work of journalists in covering protests.
Barelang police chief, AKBP Prasetyo Rahmad Purboyo also regretted the existence of journalist acts that violence by police.
He also asked journalists when covering demonstrations in order to be able wear identity tags.
"For that we must be able to understand each other, because the police are also human," he said.
Police chief also promised that in the future, if there were protesters, I would remind my members to protect the work of each journalist.
I hope that journalists as social control can handle and maintain the conduciveness of Batam City.
