TRIBUNBATAM.id - Batam Tourism and Promotion Board with Batam Heritage Society plans to establish BJ Habibie museum.

Until now in Batam, there is only a public museum, Raja Ali Haji Museum, located at Engku Putri Square, Batam Center.

Batam Tourism and Promotion Board Executive Director, Edi Sutrisno said the establishment of museum was in memory for Prof. Dr. Ing. H. Bacharuddin Jusuf (BJ) Habibie.

According to Edi, there are actually two types of museums namely public museum and thematic museum.

"We have long thought of it, because there is not a single thematic museum in Riau Islands, especially Batam city. To fill in the blanks we initiated BJ Habibie museum," Edi said Friday (02/28/2020) night to media crew.

It is expected that with the existence of museum, tourists who come to Batam will have other options with new destination.

"Later, foreign tourists and domestic tourists can enjoy more special destinations," continued Edi.

Edi explained, the reason for choosing BJ Habibie Museum was because he was a figure who had contributed in building Batam city for 20 Years (1978-1998).

Traces of him (BJ Habibie) can still be enjoyed until now, but according to Eddie it is still not widely known by Batam people.

"The location of museum is planned to built right above Welcome to Batam Monument, we know that so far thousands of people come there every day, even though only for a selfie," said Edi.

This museum will be built on Welcome to Batam in form of N250 aircraft.

"Because this is one of aircraft that was made by BJ Habibie," explained Edi.

On the top of museum also features a restaurant that provides Malay food while looking at view of Batam city.

"Later we will make stairs and a special elevator to the top, we hope that people will know BJ Habibie is one of the best sons for nation. And that will be the only BJ Habibie museum in Indonesia," he said.

The museum itself will be filled with various items from BJ Habibie.
