TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Covid-19 epidemic that was shaking the world turned out to affect the export of pigs from Riau Islands (Kepri) to Singapore.
This was conveyed by Ervi, Tanjungpinang Agricultural Quarantine Office Officer during a physical examination and health of pigs that will be exported by PT Indo Tirta Suaka (ITS) through Jatty Baru port on Bulan Island, Riau Islands Sunday (29/3/2020).
The increase in exports of pigs from Bulan Island, Riau Islands occurred after Malaysia made a lockdown.
"Therefore, the demand for pigs to PT ITS has doubled," he said on Monday (3/30/2020) yesterday.
He conveyed, before Malaysia did a lockdown, usually the demand per day was an average of 700 to 900 individuals.
"Now it reaches 1,400 to even 1,600," he said.
The pigs that were exported on (3/29/2020) also reached 1,635 animals, with a value of Rp 5,171,390,600.
"So far, Singapore has imported pigs from Malaysia and Indonesia, once Malaysia has a lockdown, demand has shifted to Indonesia," he said.
"In every event, there will always be wisdom for those who are grateful.
