Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake in Pangandaran, West Java, No Potential Tsunami

This earthquake was centered at 8.21 South Latitude, 107.86 East Longitude, or 90 kilometers Southwest of Pangandaran Regency, West Java.

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Magnitude 5.1 earthquake occurred in Pangandaran, West Java, Sunday (05/24/2020), at 14:11 WIB.

This earthquake was centered at 8.21 South Latitude, 107.86 East Longitude, or 90 kilometers Southwest of Pangandaran Regency, West Java.

This earthquake is at a depth of 13 kilometers.

The information is based on data displayed on the official website of the Meteorological Climatology and Geophysics Department (BMKG). 

The tremor in seconds was felt to be strong enough to occur in Pangandaran to Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java.

Residents who felt the tremor left the house due to panic.

"The tremor is very strong," Rosliani, a resident of Tasikmalaya, told Kompas.com on Sunday.

According to him, residents had run out of the house. 

But the panic did not last long.

According to information from the BMKG, the earthquake has no tsunami potential.

However, BMKG suggests that residents remain cautious of any potential aftershocks.

Previously, on Tuesday (5/20/2020), an earthquake also shook Pangandaran Regency and its surroundings.

At that time, the earthquake tremors were also felt quite loudly by residents of Pangandaran to Tasikmalaya.

Earthquake tremors felt strong enough because it is a shallow earthquake. (*)
