President Orders Health Protocol Violators To Be Sanctioned, Here is Mayor of Batam's Words

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Presidential Instruction Number 6 of 2020 concerning Increasing Discipline and Law Enforcement of Health Protocols in the Prevention and Control of Covid-19 which was signed by President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, has reached the ears of Mayor of Batam, H Muhammad Rudi.

Exiting the hall after a meeting at Travelodge Hotel, Jodoh, Rudi, who was wearing his distinctive white shirt, was immediately confronted with the question whether Batam would implement a regional regulation that regulates sanctions against health protocol violators?

Rudi seemed to be considering it, and said he didn't want to talk about it first.

Even so, he agreed, that every regulation related to Covid-19 health protocol must have sanctions.

"There must be a sanction, if not, it will not be implemented. But we have to see this sanction, so we will carry it out," said Rudi.

Disciplinary sanctions are what has been emphasized by Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, to date.

Health protocol violators, such as those who are reluctant to wear masks, do not keep their distance and are ignorant of the crowd ban, which have long been subjected to disciplinary sanctions.

"Just disciplinary sanctions, not punishment. Not imprisonment," added Rudi.

According to Rudi, if possible, the formulation of regional regulations with strict sanctions will be carried out immediately.

However, realistically, he sees that the flow of passing regional regulation will be quite long and convoluted.

"Because if you wait for a regional regulation, you have to look at the priority or not? Whose initiative rights do you have? And others. To approve it, this is too long. We can write DPRD, if we want to quickly make a regional regulation," explained Rudi.

Even though there is no regional regulation about the enforcement of health protocol discipline, Batam City Government has been cooperating with TNI and Polri in these activities.

After receiving this latest Presidential instruction, himself as Regional Head, said he would find the best way.

If strict regulations and sanctions are needed, they will be arranged in such a way.
