TRIBUNBATAM.id - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said that the construction of Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) is the best in Indonesia at this time.
"I thank PP and AP I, I see, in my opinion, the work is the best for now in Indonesia," Jokowi said at the inauguration of YIA, as quoted by Antara, Saturday (29/8/2020).
YIA Airport is an airport built to replace Adi Sutjipto Airport, which is now only intended for military aircraft. The construction of Yogyakarta International Airport was very fast, only taking 20 months.
Then, what are the features of YIA Airport that Jokowi is proud of?
1. Designed to be earthquake and tsunami resistant
President Jokowi said that the newly designed YIA Airport has earthquake resistance up to 8.8 on the Richter scale and can withstand tsunami waves up to a height of 12 meters.
"Mrs. Dwikorita, Head of BMKG told me, this building can withstand tsunami waves up to a height of 12 meters. InsyaAllah, this has been well designed," Jokowi said as quoted from the Setkab website, Saturday (29/8/2020).
2. Has a very long runway
This new airport has a runway length of 3,250 meters, or longer than the old Yogyakarta Adisutjipto airport which was only 2,200 meters. This new airport can accommodate large aircraft such as the Airbus A330 or Boeing 777.
This means that YIA can be landed by wide-body aircraft.

3. The terminal area reaches 14 times
Meanwhile, the terminal area reaches 219 square meters or about 13-14 times the size of the Adisucipto Airport terminal area which is only about 17 thousand square meters.
YIA has a capacity that can accommodate up to 20 million passengers per year or 11 times larger than Adisutjipto Airport which is only 1.6 million passengers per year.
To improve passenger comfort, YIA is equipped with 96 check-in counters, 12 immigration counters in the departure area, 8 immigration counters in the arrivals area, 74 escalators, 41 elevators, 38 travelators, 60 toilets, 13 nursery rooms, 45 prayer rooms.
There is also a parking building that can accommodate up to 4,900 two-wheeled vehicles, 1,230 four-wheeled vehicles, and a non-building parking lot that can accommodate 61 buses and 402 four-wheeled vehicles.

4. Tsunami Early Warning System technology
Reporting from Antara, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Dwikorita Karnawati said, Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA) is the only airport in Indonesia that is equipped with a tsunami warning system.
"This airport is the only airport in Indonesia that is equipped with a Tsunami early warning system, even the first in ASEAN," said Dwikorita.
According to Dwikorita, the system is integrated with the earthquake monitoring network at the National Earthquake Center and the Indonesia Tsunami Early Warning System (InaTEWS) at the BMKG Central Jakarta Office, and is the first pilot system in Indonesia and ASEAN for airports in tsunami prone areas.
The tsunami early warning system at Yogyakarta International Airport is connected to the earthquake sensor network, with 372 sensors installed throughout Indonesia.
5. Anti-tsunami ATC tower
President Director of AirNav Indonesia, Pramintohadi said, the YIA tower has a number of advantages compared to the Adisujtipto Tower.
First, YIA tower has a height of 39.5 meters, higher than Adi Sutjipto's tower which is 25 meters high. All the facilities are also fairly modern.
Second, the YIA tower was built in just 7.5 months, including one of the fastest. Third, the tower is built to withstand earthquakes of up to 8.8 magnitude.
"The fourth advantage is that the tower is built to be tsunami resistant and can operate immediately after the tsunami stops. This is because all navigation equipment is placed at an altitude of 15 meters above sea level, because the tsunami waves are in the range of 8-12.8 meters," he said. (*)
