Customs and Excise Claims Illegal Goods Circulation in KEPRI Decreases, Sri Mulyani Targets of 1%

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Customs and Excise claims that the circulation of illegal goods without excise stamps in Riau Islands (Kepri) tends to decline. 

Based on the survey results, the number now dropped to 3 percent in 2019. 

This decline is quite significant when compared to 2018 which was still at 7%. 

In 2020, Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani hopes that the number of illegal goods circulation without excise stamps will decrease to 1%. 

There are two cases of illegal goods circulation that were prevented by the Kepri Customs and Excise personnel. 

The Riau Islands Regional Customs and Excise Officers, Batam Customs and Tanjung Balai Karimun Customs who are members of the Operasi Jaring Sriwijaya thwarted an attempt to smuggle 50 million illegal goods without excise stamps with a value of up to IDR 37 billion.

From the smuggling, the State lost up to 52 billion. 

The smuggling effort was carried out with the alibi Ship to Ship (STS) by the Pratama Motor Sailing Ship (KLM) with 1 unit of High Speed Craft (HSC) in Berakit Waters, Bintan Regency, Riau Islands Province.

Not only that, some time before that, Customs and Excise also managed to arrest 1 HSC unit without a name in the waters of Pulau Nyamuk, Lingga Regency. 

The HSC was caught carrying imported liquor without customs documents and entering Indonesian territory illegally. (*)
