TRIBUNBATAM.id - Spokesperson for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said the current Covid-19 situation was nearing the peak of the pandemic after the holiday period at the end of 2020.

This was conveyed in a written press release by the Covid-19 Task Force on Thursday (6/24/2021).

"The current Covid-19 situation is nearing the peak of the pandemic post-holiday period late last year. Currently active cases have reached 160,524 cases, while the highest active case (previously) was 176,672 on February 5, 2021," said Wiku.

He said, this week, the development of positive cases of Covid-19 nationally experienced a very significant increase of 42 percent.

This increase has been going on for five weeks in a row, the majority coming from the provinces on the island of Java.

"The addition has doubled compared to last week," said Wiku.

Currently, there are five provinces in Java that contributed to the increase in positive cases of Covid-19, namely DKI Jakarta which increased by 13,022 cases, West Java which rose by 6,449 cases, East Java rose by 1,756 cases, DIY rose by 1,322 cases, and Java Central which rose by 1,012 cases.

In line with the increase in positive cases, deaths in these five provinces also became the highest this week.

"Only DIY hasn't experienced a sharp increase in the death rate, so it doesn't enter the top five," said Wiku.

The five provinces that recorded the highest increase in deaths were DKI Jakarta which rose by 200 cases, Central Java which rose by 96 cases, East Java which rose by 79 cases, West Java which rose by 73 cases, and Lampung which rose by 72 cases.

Wiku said, the thing that needs to be noted is that although Lampung Province has experienced a not sharp increase in cases, the death rate is in the top 5 highest.

This shows that the effects of the long holiday period can occur in various forms, one of which is an increase in death cases.

Wiku said the increase in healing wasn't too significant this week, which was 20.1 percent.

This also shows that it is necessary to immediately improve the quality of health services so that cases of death can be prevented and the rate of recovery can be increased.

Meanwhile, for the last 4 days, the addition of daily Covid-19 cases in Indonesia recorded a record, which was three times.

The record for adding daily cases occurred on Thursday (6/24/2021) as many as 20,574 Covid-19 cases.

This number is the highest daily addition of cases since the first confirmed case of Covid-19 on March 2, 2020.

This addition caused the total number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia to reach 2,053,995 cases.

The previous record for adding daily Covid-19 cases was on Wednesday (23/6/2021), which was 15,308 cases.

Two days earlier, the highest daily addition of Covid-19 cases occurred on Monday (21/6/2021) with 14,536 cases.  (*)
