Ile Lewotolok Volcano Erupts, Ash Column Height Reaches 1,500 Meters
The volcanic eruption occurred at 07.29 WITA and was recorded on the seismograph of the Ile Lewotolok Mountain Observation Post (PPGA) in Laranwutun..
"The height of the ash column reaches 1,500 meters from the top of the mountain," said Head of PPGA Ile Lewotolok, Stanislaus Ara Kian.
According to him, the eruption wasn't accompanied by a boom and rumble. Recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 11 mm and a duration of 60 seconds.
He said several villages around the slopes of the mountain should always be vigilant. There should be no community activities within a three-kilometer radius from the top of the mountain.
For the Southeast region, he continued, the public was asked to be aware of the potential for landslides.
He added that currently there is no rain of sand or ash in the villages around the slopes of the mountain. (*)
