Hot clouds of avalanches on Mount Merapi (BPPTKG Documentation) 

TRIBUNBATAM.id, YOGYAKARTA - Mount Merapi released hot clouds of avalanches at Tuesday (08/17/2021) 07.01 and 07.43 am.

The sliding distance of the hot clouds was about 2,000 meters towards the Bebeng River.

"Hot clouds fell on Mount Merapi on August 17, 2021 at 07.01 and 07.43 am," said Head of the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG), Hanik Humaida in a written report, Tuesday, (08/17/2021). 

Hot clouds of avalanches were recorded on the seismogram with amplitudes of 48 seconds and 52 seconds. 

The duration of the hot cloud was recorded at 127 seconds and 124 seconds. 

"The glide distance is 2,000 meters to Bebeng River," she said. 

Based on the report on the activity of Mount Merapi for the observation period on Tuesday (08/17/2021) at 00.00-06.00 am, white smoke from the crater was observed with moderate to thick intensity and 150 meters high above the crater peak. 

Hot clouds of avalanches were observed with a sliding distance of 1,300 meters leading to the southwest.

In addition, five incandescent lava avalanches were observed with a maximum sliding distance of 1,000 meters to the southwest.

Until now, the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG) has determined the activity of Mount Merapi at Alert status (level III). 

The current potential hazard is lava avalanches and hot clouds in the southeast-southwest sector for a maximum of 3 km to the Woro river and 5 km to the Gendol, Kuning, Boyong, Bedog, Krasak, Bebeng, and White rivers. (*)
