TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The government of Saudi Arabia is still suspending the arrival of Umrah pilgrims from Indonesia.
This has caused a number of travel agencies to close their offices because they no longer serve congregational departures.
Head of the Batam City Ministry of Religion Department, Zulkarnain Umar, said that so far there are two Umrah travel bureaus headquartered in Batam that have closed their operations.
The two travel agencies are Mabrur and Travel Holiday.
Meanwhile, five other travel agents are still serving Umrah trips, namely Travel Zulindo, Azzam Mecca, DKI Tour, Nettour and Semesta Anta Salam.
"Initially, there were seven travel agents whose headquarter was in Batam, but now there are five left. This condition cannot be separated from the current pandemic situation," said Zulkarnain when contacted by Tribunbatam.id, Thursday (8/19/2021).
Asked about the waiting list for Umrah travel in Batam, he replied, there has been no latest information from the Umrah travel agency to date. Likewise for the certainty of the Umrah trip.
It is known that there are many requirements that must be fulfilled by prospective Umrah participants, such as being required to quarantine for 14 days in a third country.
Meanwhile, the cost of Umrah also increased, given the quarantine fee required by the Saudi Arabian government for 14 days.
Zulkarnain said that the cost of Umrah was still in the lobbying process from the center.
"The normal cost before the pandemic was IDR 20 million, after the pandemic it rose to IDR 26 million and now there is no latest information. And we're still waiting for that decision," he said. (*)
