Positive Covid-19 in Indonesia Reaches 4 Million, Death Rate Above 1,000

TRIBUNBATAM.id - After the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) level 4 was lifted in a number of regions, the positive number of Covid-19 today increased by 19,106 people and the death increased by 1,038 people. 

With this addition, the total number of positive cases of the coronavirus in Indonesia has now reached 4,008,166 people. 

"Positive cases have increased by 19,106, the total number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia has now reached 4,008,166," quoted from the data from the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Tuesday (8/24/2021). 

Of the total positive cases, 3,606,164 of them have been declared recovered, after an additional 35,082 cases recovered in daily. 

In addition, another 128,252 people died related to Covid-19, an increase of 1,038 cases from the previous day.  

The task force also said active cases now reached 273,750 people, a decrease of 17,014 cases from the previous day. 

Meanwhile, only 185,852 specimens were examined, a decrease from the previous day which reached 122,737 samples. In fact, President Jokowi previously targeted 400 thousand tests per day. 

The day before, Monday, (8/23) the positive number of Covid-19 increased by 9,604 people and the death cases reached 842 people. 

The government has lowered the assessment level for the Implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) in the Jabodetabek, Greater Bandung, and Greater Surabaya areas to PPKM level 3 which was previously level 4. 

Meanwhile, the government has again extended the PPKM Level 4, 3, and 2 in a number of Java-Bali areas. PPKM has been extended for one week or until August 30, 2021. There are 52 districts/cities in Java-Bali that are still implementing PPKM Level 4. 

Then, as many as 67 regencies/cities in Java-Bali have implemented PPKM Level 3. Meanwhile, 8 regions have implemented PPKM Level 2, with the most areas being in West Java. 

The government loosened restrictions on community activities during level-based PPKM in Java and Bali. 

Places of worship are now allowed to hold worship activities of up to 50 percent of capacity in areas that implementing PPKM Level 3 and 4 in Java-Bali. 

The government also continues to carry out a vaccination program to create herd immunity from the coronavirus. 

In Jakarta, vaccination went smoothly. However, in other areas, especially outside Java, the number of people being vaccinated is still far from the target. 

The local government stated that the vaccine stock from the central government was the reason that vaccination was still far from the target. 

The number of vaccine doses given to local governments is relatively minimal, so that the implementation of vaccination has not yet reached the target. (*Lsd)
