TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, will visit Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri), Tuesday (9/28/2021).
The Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, confirmed that there was a plan related to Jokowi's visit.
However, according to him, preparations are currently being made by the Riau Islands Provincial Government (Pemprov), while his party is the host.
Setokok Island was chosen as the destination for the president's visit, because the mangrove forest on the island is already in danger of being damaged and deforested.
Therefore, the re-preservation of mangrove forests, especially in Riau Islands, is one of the activities of the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
According to Rudi, the condition of mangrove forests in Batam has been damaged, especially in the coastal areas of Batam City.
Therefore, the government has prepared Setokok Island as a special location for mangrove planting to prevent abrasion and protect the habitat of sea creatures.
The series of activities for the President's visit to the Riau Islands will begin at around 2.20 pm in Batam, on September 28, 2021.
Then, the President will directly inspect the location of Setokok Village, Bulang, to participate in the mangrove planting event in an area of approximately 15 hectares, with a total of 49,500 mangrove trunks.
In addition to planting mangrove seedlings, President Jokowi will also participate in the release of sea eagles.
Prior to this visit, the President held a coordination meeting with the Riau Islands Governor to prepare the agenda. (lia)
