TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) stated that 32 earthquake activities were recorded in Banyubiru, Ambarawa, Salatiga, and surrounding areas since Saturday (10/23) yesterday.
The earthquake that occurred had a small magnitude, none even exceeding a magnitude of 3.5.
"The results of BMKG monitoring since Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 00.00 WIB in the morning until Sunday October 24, 2021 at 10.00 WIB, have recorded 32 earthquake activities in Banyubiru, Ambarawa, Salatiga and surrounding areas," said the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Mitigation Coordinator, Daryono in his Instagram account @daryonobmkg on Sunday (10/24).
Not only that, Daryono informed that the earthquake that occurred was in a shallow zone, with a depth of less than 10 kilometers. He also stated that the earthquake that occurred was a swarm earthquake.
Daryono said that some of the causes of the swarm earthquake were related to fluid transport, magma intrusion.
This phenomenon causes rock deformation under the surface of the volcanic zone.
Not only volcanic activity, Daryono said earthquake swarms can occur in non-volcanic areas, or areas with pure tectonic activity.
Swarms can occur in active fault zones or areas with rock characteristics that are brittle and prone to cracking, he added.
The swarm earthquake that occurred in Banyubiru, Ambarawa, Salatiga, and the surrounding areas isn't the first time.
This phenomenon has occurred in Klangon, Madiun in June 2015, Jailolo, West Halmahera in December 2015, and Mamasa, West Sulawesi in November 2018.
Daryono also highlighted that the swarm earthquake is actually not dangerous.
"It's actually not dangerous if the house in the swarm zone has a solid structure."
Previously, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3 rocked Salatiga City, Central Java, at 00.32 am. Saturday, (10/23).
This shock was felt to Ambarawa and its surroundings.
