TRIBUNBATAM.id, MANADO -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.2 rocked the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut), Sunday (12/5/2021).
The earthquake occurred at 07.47 WITA.
The BMKG Data and Information Coordinator for Manado Geophysics Station, Edward Henry Mengko, said the epicenter was at 3.99 degrees north latitude and 128.00 degrees east longitude (147 kilometers southeast of Melonguane, Talaud, North Sulawesi), with a depth of 156 kilometers.
"This earthquake doesn't have the potential for a tsunami," said Edward when confirmed via text message on Sunday.
He explained, looking at the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was an earthquake with a medium depth.
"Because of the subduction activity of the Philippine Sea Plate," he said.
After this earthquake, there have been no reports of damage or casualties.
