TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) announced that the number of cases of the Omicron variant increased by eleven cases today. Thus, the number of cases of the Omicron variant in Indonesia has reached 30 cases.

The Director of Prevention and Control of Direct Infectious Diseases of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi confirmed this.

This figure also resembles the report of the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID).

GISAID said there were 31 cases of Omicron in Indonesia this afternoon.

GISAID also places Indonesia in 31st place with the highest number of cases of the Omicron variant in the world.

The United Kingdom topped the list with 30,769 cases.

Previously, Indonesia announced the first Omicron case on December 16, 2021.

Omicron was first discovered in a janitor at the Wisma Atlet Covid-19 Emergency Hospital, Jakarta.

Then, dozens of other cases were found in people who came from abroad.
