Mt. Merapi Spewed 15 times Hot Clouds of Avalanches in 6 Hours
Mount Merapi on the border of Central Java and the Special Region of Yogyakarta is still releasing lava. On this day, Tuesday (1/4), from 00.00 to 06.
On this day, Tuesday (1/4), from 00.00 to 06.00 in the morning there were 15 lava avalanches.
"Observed 15 times incandescent lava, with a maximum sliding distance of 1,800 meters to the southwest," said Head of the Geological Disaster Technology Research and Development Center (BPPTKG), Hanik Humaida in a written statement.
During that period, low pressure smoke was also observed in the crater of Mount Merapi.
The white smoke was observed to be of thin to thick intensity and has a height of up to 50 meters from the top of the crater.
It was also observed that Mount Merapi experienced 33 avalanches, one gust earthquake, 16 multiple phase earthquakes, and five shallow volcanic earthquakes.
Until now, BPPTKG has determined the status of Mount Merapi's activity at the Alert level (level III).
