TRIBUNBATAM.id - Prambanan Temple in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, as well as Borobudur Temple, Pawon Temple, and Mendut Temple in Central Java have officially become places of worship for Hindus and Buddhists from all over the world.
This was agreed through the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the Utilization of Prambanan Temples and Borobudur Temples for the benefit of Hindus and Buddhists in Indonesia and the world.
So far, these four temples have been mostly used for research, culture and tourism purposes.
Through the agreement, the functions of the temples will include ritual purposes referring to the original purpose for which they were founded.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X, viewed the memorandum of agreement as the spirit of realizing religious moderation, social cohesion, and inter-religious harmony in Indonesia.
According to him, the use of the four temples will focus on the spiritual and educational values of the site.
That way, the people who visit do not only see the beauty of the temple, but also the worship activities carried out by Hindus and Buddhists.
"The utilization is carried out with due regard to aspects of the preservation of cultural heritage and its values and doesn't conflict with regulations, both from the Government of Indonesia and UNESCO," he said.
In addition, the use of Prambanan Temples and Borobudur Temples for religious activities is also a form of realization of the strategic Super Priority Destinations (DSP) program launched by President Jokowi.
The parties who signed the memorandum of understanding included representatives from the Ministry of Religion, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, the Ministry of SOEs, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, as well as the Yogyakarta Provincial Government and Central Java Provincial Government, which were carried out online and offline.
