TRIBUNBATAM.id - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno said that after the 2022 Mandalika MotoGP ended, the government was preparing Lake Toba in North Sumatra to host the Formula One Boat Race.
To note, this Formula One isn't on a circuit, but on water, as the name implies, the F1 Boat Race.
"There is a One Boat Race that we are targeting in May 2023, which is in the process of being prepared. Including we will invite the Hydro-Oceanography Center to ensure the availability of updated map survey instruments and Lake Toba bathymetry charts," said Sandiaga during a virtual Weekly Press Briefing, Monday, (3/28/2022).
In addition, he said that preparations were being made, including communicating with the promoter of the Formula One Boat Race, namely H2O Racing, as well as the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) organization.
"The UIM team, as the world governing body of water sports events and H2O Racing as the promoter of the F1H2O event (will) go to Lake Toba in May 2022 to ensure the condition of the lake waters and infrastructure are in accordance with the standards and specifications of the event," he added in a written statement.
For information, the F1 Boat Race is an international motorboat racing competition organized by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM).
Promoted by H2O Racing as the activity promoter, this event also called as F1 H2O.
According to Sandiaga, the F1 H2O event will be an event to promote Lake Toba's super priority destinations (DSP) to the rest of the world.
Moreover, Lake Toba with its stunning landscape of hills and lakes is considered a potential venue for thematic international events.
To note, F1 H2O is an F1 motorboat world championship which is held in calm waters such as lakes and estuaries. The track has an area of 1,000 x 150 meters, and a depth of 2.5 meters.
This event lasts for three days, consisting of a Free Practice session, a Qualifying Session, and a Grand Prix on the last day.
In the 2021 race, F1 H2O will be participated by 10 teams from nine countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), China, Portugal, Sweden, Italy, the United States, Norway and France.
