TRIBUNBATAM.id - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno revealed plans to launch cruise ship tourism in Indonesia in July 2022.

"We will launch a cruise which is planned to start in July until the end of the year. The necessary regulations have been issued," said Sandiaga in the Weekly Press Briefing at the Sapta Pesona Building, Monday, (6/13/2022).

He continued that cruise ship tourism could increase the number of visits by around 2,000 to 3,000 people to a certain destination.

Sandiaga said that initially the priority destinations for cruise ship tourism were Batam, Bintan, Surabaya and North Bali.

However, it will be added to Tanjung Benoa, Belitung, Labuan Bajo and Bau-Bau in Southeast Sulawesi.

Travel pattern to increase foreign tourists' spending

In addition to increasing the number of visits, the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy is currently looking for a travel pattern that can support the quality of spending by foreign tourists visiting Indonesia, although the number of visits is not normal.

"Therefore, we will expand the tourism products that we have. So even though the number of seats capacity is limited, once they enter Indonesia, they can stay in Indonesia longer," he said.

For instance, he gave an example to Bali and Wakatobi which have the potential to build special interest tours, such as diving to increase the length of stay of tourists and the quality of their shopping while in Indonesia
