Magnitude 6.4 Earthquake Shakes Meulaboh City Ahead of Dawn, Felt to Banda Aceh

TRIBUNBATAM.id - An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 rocked Meulaboh, Aceh on Saturday (24/9). 

Based on the BMKG, the earthquake in one of the cities in Aceh occurred at around 3:52 am.

"Earthquake M 6.4 September 24 at 3:53 in southwest Meulaboh," said the official statement on the BMKG Twitter account, Saturday (24/9). 

The tectonic earthquake with an updated parameter of magnitude 6.4 is located at coordinates 3.75 degrees north latitude, 95.97 degrees east longitude, precisely located at sea, at a distance of 44 km south of Meulaboh City, Aceh, at a depth of 53 km. 

The shaking was also felt in the areas of Aceh Besar, Banda Aceh, Takengon, Bener Meriah, and Simeulue with an intensity scale of III MMI.

Then, shocks were also felt in the areas of Pidie, Idi, Bireuen, Langsa and Aceh Tamiang with an intensity scale of II MMI.

Acting Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Daryono, appealed to the public to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified. 

The public is also asked to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake, and to ensure that their residential buildings are sufficiently earthquake-resistant, or that there is no damage due to earthquake tremor that endanger the stability of the building before returning to their homes.
