104,652 Foreign Tourists Visit Riau Islands in September 2022, Highest During a Pandemic

TRIBUNBATAM.id - A total of 104,652 foreign tourists visited Riau Islands in September 2022. 

This figure is the highest in the area since the Covid-19 pandemic. 

Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits during January-August 2022 were recorded at 359,510 people. 

"This indicates that the confidence of foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands is getting higher," said Riau Islands Governor Ansar Ahmad in Tanjungpinang, Wednesday (11/2/2022), as quoted by Kompas. 

Ansar added that foreign tourists visiting from Malaysia and Singapore to Batam and Tanjungpinang have increased since the opening of entry from abroad using ships.

According to him, the tourism agenda organized by the regional government also contributed to inviting foreign tourists to come to Riau Islands. 

Furthermore, Acting Head of the Riau Islands Tourism Office, Luki Zaiman Prawira, said he was optimistic that the target of 1 million foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands in 2022 could be achieved.

"We are optimistic that the target of 1 million foreign tourists will be exceeded," said Luki.

He expressed this optimism, from seeing the positive achievements of foreign tourists visiting the Riau Islands throughout the year until September 2022.

In detail, he mentioned the number of foreign tourists to several popular destinations in Riau Islands.

In September 2022, the number of foreign tourists visiting Batam reached 78,498 people, while in August 2022 there were 60,249 people.

When compared with the same period last year, the figure was only 144 people. 

Meanwhile, the number of foreign tourists visiting Tanjungpinang in September 2022 reached 3,716 people, a slight increase from August 2022, which was 2,801 people. 

As for when compared to the same period last year, there was not a single foreign tourist visiting Tanjungpinang. 

Meanwhile, foreign tourist visits to Bintan Regency also increased in September 2022, which was 18,218 people compared to August 2022 which only reached 13,277 people. 

In September 2021, there were no foreign tourists visiting Bintan.
