Nyepi Day in Bali

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Nyepi Day which is celebrated by Hindus every Saka New Year, this time will take place on Wednesday (3/22/2023).

During the process of implementing Nyepi Day, Hindus are prohibited from carrying out several activities.

The province of Bali, whose population is predominantly Hindu, will also celebrate Nyepi tomorrow.

The prohibition on carrying out activities aims to prevent the solemnity of Hindu worship from being disturbed.

Those who celebrate Nyepi use this moment to evaluate themselves and ask Sang Hyang Widhi to purify Bhuana Alit (human nature) and Bhuana Agung (universe).

A number of processions in the Nyepi Day series are carried out from the evening before Nyepi or Pengupukan, where there is a festive ogoh-ogoh parade in every village in Bali.

The next morning, the atmosphere turned into silence when Nyepi arrived.

Tourists visiting Bali must also respect the customs and traditions of local Hindus, so they are not disturbed.

Nyepi in Bali is celebrated for 24 hours, from 6.00 WITA to 6.00 WITA the next day.

Here are 5 prohibitions that tourists must know during the Nyepi celebration in Bali:

1. Not allowed to travel. All people in Bali are asked not to do activities outside the home. All activities will be stopped, including transportation, whether using motorbikes, cars, planes, ships, and so on.

2. Don't make a fuss. During Nyepi, residents are asked to remain silent and use it as a moment to reflect and introspect.

3. It is not allowed to turn on the lights at night. During Nyepi, all corners of the island of Bali will be pitch black.

4. Cannot work. All types of work, including traders, will also be closed during Nyepi Day. Therefore, tourists who are in Bali should prepare food, medicine, or other things that are deemed necessary.

5. During Nyepi, the Pecalang or local traditional village officials will conduct patrols to ensure the smooth implementation of Nyepi. So, make sure you comply with all existing rules, including the specific rules of a traditional village.

For information, during Nyepi, internet access or cellular data, television and radio will usually also be turned off.

The deactivation will last for 06.00 WITA until 6.00 the next day.
