Smog Doesn't Disturb Tourism, Batam Disbudpar Has Not Issued Travel Warning

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Culture and Tourism Department (Disbudpar) of Batam City has not issued a travel warning related to smog disturbance that has hit Batam recently.

"It means it is still safe. Because according to several related departments, the air condition is still normal. Although yesterday it was indeed bad. But at this time we have yet to issue a travel warning," said Batam City Head of Disbudpar, Monday (9/23/2019).

He said, according to his observations, some maisha tourism objects were classified as safe from the threat of garbage.

In fact he said, last week foreign tourists from neighboring countries still came to Batam.

"Most of tourists are shopping at Indoor room. Now for our air, it's still feasible," he said.

The same thing was expressed by Head of Riau Islands Provincial Department, Buralimar.

He said, tourism activities in Batam City, Riau Islands, were not affected by smog that sometimes enveloped city in last few days.

"Singapore does not issue travel advice and travel warnings for Batam, our tourism continues," he said.

He said, Batam is not always shrouded in smoke haze, indeed sometimes the white fog hovers, but sometimes the sky also appears bright blue.

According to Buralimar, this condition is still possible for travelers to enjoy Batam.

Throughout this weekend, thousands of foreign tourists from Singapore and Batam are scheduled to visit city opposite these Lion Country.

"This morning, around 2,000 foreign tourists came to attend Sultan Mahmud Riayat Syah Mosque Tabligh Akbar. There was also a group of NTU Singapore students who held an event here, not yet other activities," he said.

Meanwhile, Head of Batam's Class I Environmental Health and Disease Control Techniques (BTKLPP), Ministry of Health Slamet Mulsiswanto stated that air quality in Batam City was in the medium category with Air Pollution Standard Index reaching 49 to 53. (tribunbatam.id/leo halawa)
