16 Residents Was Killed, 65 Get Injured During The Riots In Wamena, Papua
Riots occurred in Wamena, Jayawijaya Regency, Papua, Monday (9/23/2019). The riots not only damaged the buildings but also resulted in fatalities.

The riots not only damaged the buildings and public facilities.
The riots and clashes that occurred was also resulted in fatalities.
Kodim 1702 Jayawijaya Commander Lieutenant Colonel Inf. Candra Diyanto said there were 16 civilians killed in the riots.
Meanwhile, 65 others people was suffered in injuries.
"For the victims, 65 people were injured, 16 died, and that was all the civilians," Candra Diyanto said when contacted on Monday.
However, Candra could not explain in detail the cause of the death.
"The apparatus standby in 24-hour, we secure all the vital objects. In general, the city is conducive, but we have to anticipate that there will be the follow-up actions," said Candra.
Previously, the demonstrators were anarchistic to burn the residents' houses, government offices, PLN, and several community kiosks.
The demonstrans tried to push into the Wamena's business center.
However, they were immediately confronted by the police.
Wamena is the capital of Jayawijaya Regency, Papua Province.
This city is the largest one in the central mountains of Papua.
There is also a business center in Wamena, so that when the riots occur, the area is heavily guarded by the police.
President Joko Widodo has visited Wamena City in twice, namely on December 28, 2014 while discussing about the problems that exist in that area. (*)
