Erick Thohir Cancel the Free Homecoming, Funds Used for Handling the Coronavirus

TRIBUNBATAM -  Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir, decided to cancel all free homecoming activities held by state-owned companies.

Special Staff of the Minister of BUMNs, Arya Sinulingga, explained that the funds, which are largely a CSR budget of BUMN companies, will be diverted for the process of handling the coronavirus. 

However, Arya did not provide a more detailed description of the number of funds normally allocated by BUMN companies in holding free homecoming.

Based on the data he has this year, there will be at least 275,000 travelers who will return home through the free BUMN homecoming service.

"This is the step requested by sir. Erick to all BUMNs so that with this transfer the Indonesian people will be helped quickly," he said. 

Ministry of Transportation steps

Previously, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) had also decided to cancel the implementation of free homecoming during Lebaran Transportation in 2020.

The step was taken to prevent the spread of the coronavirus to various regions.

Kemenhub's Director General of Land Transportation Budi Setiyadi said, with the cancellation of free homecoming, his party has a budget of Rp 40 billion which could be allocated to other programs. 

In addition to free homecoming, the Directorate General (Dirjen) of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation has a budget of Rp 160 billion which can be reallocated due to the spread of the coronavirus.

Therefore, the Director-General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation has a total budget of Rp 200 billion.

"Regarding the budget reallocation, we have indeed exercised some budget adjustments. Because some of our contractual programs have been canceled, amounting to around Rp 160 billion. Then the revision of free homecoming activities is around Rp 40 billion," Budi said in a video conference, Friday (27 / 3/2020).

He said it was possible his side would use the budget to make disinfectant booths at the bus terminal. (*)
