TRIBUNBATAM.id - The Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir, said that the renewal of Sarinah needs to be done to be able to remain competitive but by not leaving the historical value of Sarinah itself.

"Sarinah was a project created by Mr. Soekarno which is extraordinary. Therefore, Mr. Jokowi with me, discuss how to make this retail concept more friendly to Indonesia, which means there is partiality on local brands and curated UKM products," he said in official statement that received by Kompas.com, Saturday (05/09/2020).

Erick said, Sarinah's transformation was essentially returning to its core while maintaining the integrity of the heritage of the nation's founders, but with the packaging and existence of the present and which promises sustainable business growth in the future.

On the other hand, continued Erick, the building which has been more than half a century old is indeed time to be renovated to maintain the structure's robustness by considering the Golden Rule related to safety, health, and the environment.

"Actually, the renovation plan has long been launched, but it is only now starting to be rolled out," he said.

Regarding the renovation schedule, Erick Thohir said, the plan would start in June 2020. But because of the Covid-19 outbreak, the renovation work began with design, architecture, mapping, auditing, and other technical works that did not cause crowds. (*)
