Dua dari kisah sukses Hollywood terbesar 2018 juga dicalonkan, Black Panther, film superhero solo pertama dengan bintang berkulit hitam di jagat cinematic Marvel saat ini mendapatkan nominasi Best Picture dalam kategori drama.

Dan Crazy Rich Asian, film studio besar pertama sejak The Joy Luck Club yang menampilkan sebagian besar orang Asia dan Asia-Amerika, mendapat nominasi Best Picture di kategori komedi atau musikal.

Dalam kategori televisi, The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story memimpin keseluruhan dengan empat nominasi termasuk Best TV Limited Series.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, yang baru saja memenangkan beberapa piala Emmu di musim gugur pun meraih tiga nominasi dalam kategori komedi atau musikal TV.

Maisel adalah satu dari hanya tiga serial yang masuk nominasi bersama The Good Place dan The American, yang dinominasikan setelah musim pertamanya.

Dengankata lain, Golden Globes 2019 cenderung ke arah pertunjukan baru.
