Heavy Haze In Jambi: 12 Noon Getting Dark, Residents Turn on The Lights and Fans

TRIBUNBATAM.id - During the day, the atmosphere of Pudin Village, Mentaro Island, Betung, and Pematang Raman, Kumpeh Ilir District, Muarojambi Regency was dark like late night, because of the thick haze. 

Residents were forced to turn on the lights of vehicles and houses because sunlight was unable to penetrate the thick haze. 

The thick smoke was caused by forest and land fires in Muarojambi Regency. 

"At 12.00 this afternoon it had started to get dark, like midnight, the lights of the houses turned on," said Dedy Wahyuni, a resident of Betung Village, Sunday (09/22/2019) 

Residents are so worried about land fires approaching the settlement. Besides the thick smog, it is feared that it could disturb the public health. 

PC PMII Branch Manager of Jambi City, Deno Agustrianto who participated in putting out the fire said that the conditions in Pudin Village, Kumpeh Uli were very bad. 

He explained that around the location, there were more than 30 hotspots that had to be extinguished.

"The joint team is trying to extinguish, there are from the TNI and Polri and other teams," explained Deno.

The extinguishing process is done by using a water spraying machine and other tools that can be used to extinguish the fire. 

Turn on the lights and fans

Lisa, a resident of Pematang Raman Village, Kumpeh Ilir District, said that this condition was very different in the previous days. 

"Now, the condition (of the sky) is still red from 10 o'clock in this morning. And the weather started getting worse until now," she explained. 

The condition of the thick smoke makes people unable to move to the outside. Residents also have to turn on the lights because the atmosphere turns dark.

Even to reduce the condition of the haze, for 24 hours the local residents use a fan to reduce the smoke that entering the house. 

Lisa said that some of her neighbors had fled to the safer places. 

The Head of the BPBD Muarojambi Regency , M Zakir, when confirmed could not be questioned. 

However, he said that currently he and the Karhutla firefighting team were still conducting a blackout.
