Why the Oldster doesn't Like the Modern Music? Here's the Reason

Until now, there are various genres that flood the world of music.

People who listen to music are also from various ages, both young and old.

However, it cannot be denied that everyone's preferences about music change as they get older.

But there is one interesting thing about the relationship between music and the age of the listener.

Sometimes many of the oldster feel "disgusted" by the genre of music or modern songs.

Is there a correlation between age and taste in music? Does this mean of because the more we getting older, the more we become closed to the changes and new approaches to music? 

Believe it or not, the answers to these questions are actually in our own brains.

Reported by the Medical Daily, there is a research that shows the ability of the human brain to distinguish chords and other musical elements that deteriorate with age.

And songs that are not known today, tend to sound the same in the ears of the oldster.

This might be the reason why they always refer to modern music as noise. 

Interestingly, Professor of Psychology at Knox University, United States, Frank T. Mc Andrew believes there is a simpler explanation for why the oldster don't like to listen to new music, and that is only because of the exposure.

There is a psychological theory called the "mere exposure effect" that the more a person is exposed to something, the more that the person is likely to like it.

This theory is actually proven in how companies marketed their products. 

The Jingle over and over and the frequency of the television advertisements gives viewers the impression that they want the products like that. The same thing can be said about the song. 

To note, jingle is a picture of an ad that is realized in the form of music.

Still from the same site, about why the oldster develop a dislike for new music, the answer is simple, they are not exposed to the modern elements of new songs when they are teenagers to adults. 

Music industry

People in their 30s, stop looking for new music because they are quite busy with more pressing matters that relating to their careers and family life.

So they have almost no time to listen to contemporary music, except when they are involved in the music industry. 

The problem is, the music industry is always releasing the new music for youth generations.

The most common themes of modern-day songs are about youthful love, peer rejection and the concepts that are no longer relevant to the oldster. (*)
