The US Treasury Secretary, Steven Mnuchin said, Trump has ordered the preparations to impose the new sanctions on Turkey

"We hope we don't need to use it (sanctions). But we can close the Turkish economy if needed," Mnuchin said.

"Now, there are threats from the right and left, asking us to stop. I say, we'll never stop," Erdogan stressed.

"We'll not back down from the steps that we took. We wouldn't stop, whatever people say," he said in an interview with the AFP and Sky News, Friday (10/11/2019).

Erdogan sees the Syrian Kurds, who are the members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), as terrorists that connected to the Turkish rebels.

He said the military operations to strike their position in Syria's northeast region were necessary to maintain the national security.

His promise came after the United Nations revealed the Operation Peace Spring on Wednesday (10/9/2019) had displaced 100,000 locals.

Thousands of people have been displaced from villages such as Ras al-Ayn and Tal Abyad, with the World Food Program revealing that some are walking, some are riding in vehicles.

There is fear that the attack will have an impact on the return of ISIS. Moreover, Kurds are a US ally in the fight against extremist groups.

Trump received criticism because he was considered to allow the invasion of Turkey after the White House announced it was withdrawing from the border.

Now, senators, both from Republicans and Democrats, want to formulate the strong sanctions that will be used to stem the Ankara attack. (*)
