TRIBUNBATAM.id -  The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) will partner with PT Gojek Indonesia (Gojek) to improve sea toll services and stop the monopoly that occurs in the operation of sea tolls.

Later, container ordering will be carried out using digital-based applications so that the container ordering process will be transparent and the cargo to shipper in remote, outermost and border areas (3TP) will be shared fairly.

However, there are problems in the implementation of the sea highway program, one of which is the alleged monopolistic practice.

"Therefore, we are exploring cooperation with Gojek to stop the monopoly that occurs in the operation of sea tolls, so that the benefits of the government subsidies are right on target and able to reduce price disparities between Western Indonesia and Eastern Indonesia," Wisnu said in a written statement, Sunday (3/11/2019).

According to Wisnu, his party has also identified a pattern of potential monopolies that is occurring. From the results of the identification, alleged monopolistic practices occur in the eastern regions, such as Maluku and Papua.

Wisnu added, the use of digital platforms can make it easier for the community, given that people are accustomed to using the Gojek application for transportation bookings.

Wisnu also said that he would soon have a meeting with Gojek so that the sea toll container ordering application could be realized immediately.

Previously, the Minister of Transportation, Budi Karya Sumadi, acknowledged that there were sea toll price arrangements. Budi said there was a problem conveyed by the regent during a visit to Maluku

Budi also explained that most of the sea toll roads are located in Surabaya. From Surabaya, the goods were brought to East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), Maluku, North Maluku, and Papua.

The dominance of shipping is considered detrimental to the government. The reason is, the government also provides subsidies for shipping goods via sea tolls.

Budi added, an open order system would be developed using information technology. Buyers can immediately order shipments through the system.

Budi also expects the role of regionally-owned enterprises (BUMD) to cover Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM). So that the BUMD can provide containers to be used collectively by collected UKM.

For informations, the problem of filling containers is also a cause of monopoly. Because UKMs in the regions have less than 1 container for expenditure needs. (*)
