TRIBUNBATAM.id - 10 Lion Air airline flights to and from Hang Nadim Airport in Batam experienced delay for 8 hours, last Monday (18/11/2019).

The delay, according to Lion Air Group Management due to wind conditions from the rear that exceeds limitation allowed for operations so that flight delays from and to Hang Nadim Airport, Batam, Riau Islands must be carried out.

Corporate Communications Strategic of Lion Air, Danang Mandala Prihantoro in his press statement said that Lion Air had complied and carried out the regulatory policies and standard operating procedures of company as well as international provisions.

"Some flights experience delays in arrival and departure delays due to wind conditions from the rear (tailwind) exceeding the limits permitted for Lion Air operations (company policy)," he explained.

He continued, at that time the wind from behind changed direction with speed of 12-14 knots so it had to be avoided because it could push the plane faster.

"The pilot's decision is in accordance with the rules in improving flight safety and security (safety first). "All Lion Air's cockpit (pilots and copilot) crew have been trained during the situation or are preparing for flight," he said.

Before departure, pilot perfected the flight plan and monitored the weather through device in cockpit.

Beside that, pilots must knows radar imaging along flight routes to weather conditions at the destination airport and visual observation.

"Pilots continue to monitor aircraft performance and always communicate with air traffic controllers (ATC)," he said.

Danang also said, Lion Air had given an explanation to all passengers who had interrupted his trip and updated according to developments.

"Lion Air flights return to normal after the wind speed at Hang Nadim International Airport, Batam is declared safe for the flight process, according to company regulations," he explained. (tribunbatam.id/nabella hastin pinakesti)
