Batam Government Employees Must Bring Their Own Drinking Bottles From Home
Mayor of Batam gives appeal for Batam City Government employees to reduce the production of plastic waste in Batam, by bring drinking bottle to office
TRIBUNBATAM.id - Mayor of Batam, Muhammad Rudi, asked Batam City residents to start reducing the use of disposable plastics.
This appeal was started from Batam City Government employees.
Disposable plastic makes up 50 percent of plastic waste in the ocean.
And plastic will become problems once it enters the ocean because it is almost impossible to get rid of it and animals end up eating or being trapped in plastic.
These marine animals can also die caused by dangerous chemicals contained in plastic.
Aiming to reduce the production of plastic waste in Batam,
Every employee, said Rudi, was required to bring a drinking bottle to the office.

Thus reducing the use of plastic bottles.
"It took 600 years to become one with the soil. That was the expert's explanation to me yesterday. Then slowly we returned to 50 years ago, we no longer use plastic, we use glass again, use glass for drinking," said Rudi Wednesday (11/20) / 2019).
He also discourse to make a policy of providing glass and non-plastic containers that can be used by employees in Batam City Government.
This policy does not necessarily mean that it can be realized immediately.
But it must go through a process of socialization in no time.
"For the continuation of the lives for our young children. One day, plastic will not be a scourge for us, Batam citizen," he continued.
Previously, Head of Batam City Environment Department, Herman Rozie, said that in average of 900-1,000 tons of waste transported to Telagapunggur landfill (TPA) in Telagapunggur.
It is estimated that at least 20 percent of that amount is plastic waste or a type of plastic.
