Reducing Leasing Costs, Garuda Indonesia wants to Recruit Reliable Negotiators
Garuda Indonesia's President Director, Irfan Setiaputra, admitted that he was racking his brains to settle debts that would due date soon.
The Indonesian Ombudsman once mentioned, Garuda has a debt of 500 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp 7 trillion which will due date in May 2020.
"The debt is indeed one of our concerns now. This afternoon we talked about this with the team. There are several steps prepared, "said Irfan at the Ministry of BUMN, Jakarta, Friday (1/24/2020).
Launch from Kompas.com, Irfan explained, one of the methods prepared was by combining company cash and finding new debt.
In addition, for Garuda Indonesia's debt to be thinned out, said Irfan, it must be able to get additional income. For example by optimizing the cargo business.
"We are trying to reduce debt by making this company profitable," said Irfan.
Not only that, Irfan will try to renegotiate aircraft purchase agreements with the manufacturers. In fact, he plans to recruit master negotiators to smooth out the plan.
Previously, Indonesian Ombudsman member, Alvin Lie noted that Garuda had a debt of 500 million US dollars.
According to him, this debt would not be possible to be paid from Garuda's cash or business results.
"This new debt must be cheaper than the old debt," he said. (*)
