Riau Islands Regional Police Raid Illegal Sand Mining in Nongsa Batam, 20 People Secured

Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda) raided illegal sand mining in Batu Besar area, Nongsa, Batam. 20 people secured with their respective roles.

Riau Islands Regional Police through Sub Directorate IV of Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirkrimsus) Polda raided the illegal sand quarry in Batu Besar area, Nongsa, Batam, Friday (6/3/2020) night around 20:30 WIB. 

TRIBUNBATAM.id - Riau Islands Regional Police (Polda) through Sub Directorate IV of Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Dirkrimsus) raided illegal sand mining in Batu Besar area, Nongsa, Batam.

The raids were carried out Friday (6/3/2020) night around 20:30 WIB.

This were carried out after police received reports from public regarding the allegedly illegal sand mining activity.

Kasubdit IV Ditreskrimsus Riau Islands Police AKBP Wiwit Ari Wibisono on Saturday (07/03/2020) said the action against illegal mining was due to unrest conveyed by community.

During the raid, police managed to secure 20 people at sand dredging site in Batu Besar area of ​​Nongsa, Batam city.

"20 people secured with their respective roles, 4 as heavy equipment operators, 4 as recorders in and out of lorries, 11 as lorry drivers and 1 food seller," Wiwit said when confirmed.

Kasubdit IV Ditreskrimsus Riau Islands Police revealed, based on the information of person being safeguarded, they had been in the sand for about 2 weeks.

"The owner of sand soil mining activity is brother A, who is currently under construction by police," he said.

From the arrests successfully secured evidence in the form of 11 units of lorries, 4 units of excavators and 4 record books from the sale of Illegal sand mines.
