Influenced by Dollar, Beef Prices in Batam Rise Ahead of Ramadhan

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The price of chicken meat in some markets in Batam City, Riau Islands Province has remained stable since 10 days ago.
Met by TRIBUNBATAM.ID, a chicken meat trader at Tiban Center Market said that the price of chicken meat remained stable ahead of 4 days leading up to the holy month of Ramadhan.
"It is still stable in the order of IDR 35,000 per kilogram for broilers. For chickens per head, IDR 47 thousand," he said, Monday (4/20/2020).
Although the price of chicken meat is stable, he complained that sales have begun to decline since the past month.
Generally, the stalls are always crowded with buyers when approaching Ramadhan.
"Usually I can sell up to hundreds of tails in a day. At present sales have decreased since Corona virus outbreak," he said.

A chicken meat seller in Batam's SP Plaza Batu Aji Market, Romi felt the same way.
"There is no surge in chicken meat prices before fasting this year. The price is IDR 33,000 per kilogram for chicken. It has remained stable since April 11, 2020," he said.
From the other side, Romi considered that the current sluggish economic situation affected the price movement of chicken meat.
Beef Prices
While the price of beef in a number of markets in Batam, Monday (4/20/2020) rose compared to one month ago.
Towards the holy month of Ramadhan, the price of beef ice is around IDR 90,000 per kilogram. Whereas the price of fresh beef ranges from IDR 130,000 to IDR 150,000 per kilogram.
A beef trader in Batam's SP Plaza Batu Aji Market, Romi said, beef prices rose around IDR 5,000 compared to last month.
"Last month the price of beef was estimated at Rp 85,000 per kilo," he said.
According to him, the increase in beef prices was influenced by rising dollar prices.
