Anticipating Corona Virus, Freeport Indonesia Improves Health Facilities in Production Areas

TRIBUNBATAM.id - PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) continues to strengthen the health protection system by increasing the number of rapid tests and increasing the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) inspection capacity.

This was done by Freeport in order to face the Covid-19 pandemic. The other thing the company is also doing is increasing the number of medical personnel, as well as increasing the number of isolation accommodations.

PTFI President Director Tony Wenas said that to maintain the safety and health of more than 25,000 employees and contractors, PTFI expanded the scope of examinations to be able to identify positive cases more quickly and conduct tracing to curb the spread of the virus. 

"At present, in the work area PCR test kits and around 50,000 rapid test kits are available, so PTFI can quickly detect and isolate those infected, provide the necessary medical care, and take appropriate mitigation measures," he said in an official statement, Tuesday (5/12/2020).

According to Tony, the increase in inspection capacity is in addition to various mitigation efforts that have been carried out previously, such as checking employee temperature, applying physical distances, travel restrictions, increasing sanitation efforts, and prohibiting meetings in large numbers.

"The health and safety of all employees is a top priority of PTFI. We have and continue to work with International SOS, and coordinate closely with the government to provide the best medical treatment we can provide in accordance with COVID-19 global mitigation procedures.

We are grateful that the handling of COVID-19 patients has shown good results, with more and more employees getting close to recovering, "he said. 

PTFI has also increased the capacity of COVID-19 treatment in the work area, including by adding treatment rooms and isolation rooms at Tembagapura Hospital, as well as breathing apparatus (ventilators) for those who need it. (*)
