TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Shahraz tanker that ran aground or strands in Batu Berhenti waters, Belakang Padang District, Batam City, Riau Islands Province has not yet been moved.

The Iranian-flagged ship was still in its initial coordinate location after being reportedly foundered as a result of striking a rock on Monday (11/5).

Head of  Batam SAR Post at Tanjungpinang Class 1 Search and Rescue Office (Basarnas), Ronaldi confirmed this.

According to him, the crew even refused to be evacuated by SAR team.

"It still ran aground at the starting point. Still on radar and there was no movement," he said when contacted on Monday (6/8/2020).

The total length of ship (LOA) is 299.2 meters and 40 meters wide, with a weight of 86018 t (Summer DWT) manned by 25 POB people.

The ship sailed from Port Klang, Malaysia on May 10, 2020 and headed for Yangshan Port, Shanghai.

This ship was experiencing an aground incident after crashing into a rock in the waters of Batu Berhenti.

Previously Tanjungpinang Kabasarnas, Mu'min revealed the start of the ship Shahraz ran aground and stranded in the waters of Batam.

Based on information from the investigative team that had been formed, Shahraz's ship ran aground because of avoiding a collision with a tugboat.

So that night, the ship ran aground Samudera Sakti 1, which was then followed by Shahraz. That was the reason why the two ships ran aground far apart.

When sailing, Samudera Sakti 1 ship was in front of the right position while the Shahraz ship rested behind with a distance of between 200 to 300 meters, and for a moment a tugboat crossed.

So to avoid that, the two ships dodge to run the shipping lane. The Shahraz ship hard hit the island, explained Kabasarnas Mu'min.

"But for more details, the investigation team will conduct a dive," he said.

Previously Kabasarnas mentioned that of the two aground ships, one of them had moved. Only Shahraz's ship is still on location.
