Welcoming the Visits of Foreign Tourists, Pemko Batam Prepares Health Protocol in the Tourism Sector

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The number of foreign tourist visits to Batam in May 2020 began to increase and reach till 1,798 visits. 

This number is quite up compared to the previous month. 

"The number of tourists visiting Batam City in May 2020 increased by 58.69 percent when compared to the previous month," said Head of Batam BPS, Rahmad Iswanto, Friday (3/7/2020). 

While the number of foreign tourists in April 2020 only reached 1,133 visits. But when compared with data from May 2019 last year, the number of foreign tourists in May this year decreased by 98.76 percent. 

The tourists visiting Batam City from January to May 2020 were dominated by Singaporean tourists with a percentage of 49.88 percent of the total number of tourists from January to May 2018.

May 2020, the number of visits was 1,798

To welcome the arrival of foreign tourists in July 2020, the Government has tried to arrange the facilities in accordance with the New Normal order.

Not only facilities at the port, but also lodging facilities and shopping centers are now conditioned. 

"Aside from preparing facilities that support health protocols during the pandemic, we also coordinate with the Singaporean government," said Deputy Mayor of Batam, Amsakar Achmad.
