After Bali, Tourists Visiting Riau Islands is The Second Highest in Indonesia

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The number of foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands is second highest in Indonesia, after Bali.

When foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands in May 2020 reached 400,402 people, in Bali more than doubled to 1,050,060 visits.

However foreign tourist arrivals in Riau Islands are higher than Jakarta.

Data of Tourism Department ( Dispar) in Riau Islands Province for May 2020, as many as 400,402 visits by foreign tourists, or with a percentage of 13.67 percent.

This position is below Bali with the number of visits reaching 1,050,060 visits or with a percentage of 35.85 percent.

Meanwhile, sequence number 3 (three) is occupied by DKI Jakarta Province with a total of 358,410 visits or 12.24 percent of the total percentage overall.

However, since Covid-19 pandemic struck, the number of foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands Province was affected.

One proof, the impact of the pandemic made the number of visits dropped dramatically.

Noted, for the month of May 2020 alone, the number of foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands Province was only 1,798 visits.

This number decreased significantly by 99.2 percent if it was built in May 2019 with the number of visits reaching 225,171 visits.

Cumulatively, the actual decline has occurred since January 2020 then.

If calculated, for the period January to May 2020, the number of foreign tourists visiting Riau Islands province reached 402,200 visits, down 64.74 percent from last year with a similar period that reached 1,140,760 visits.

Data from Riau Islands Province Tourism Department is also known, if a drastic reduction in the number of foreign tourist arrivals also occurs in Indonesia as a whole.

Noted, in May 2020, the number of foreign tourist visits was only 163,646 visits or decreased by 86.9 percent from May 2019 ago.
