Jokowi: We Must Be Wary towards the Second Wave of Covid-19

TRIBUNBATAM.id - President Joko Widodo believes the Indonesian economy will rise next year. However, Indonesia must be aware, lest the second wave of Covid-19 will emerge.

This was said by Jokowi when opening a limited meeting related to the posture of the State Budget (APBN) 2021, from Bogor Palace, Tuesday (07/28/2020).

Jokowi said the world economy is currently being hit by uncertainty due to the Covid-19 pandemic which hit more than 200 countries. 

However, a number of institutions such as the IMF, World Bank, and OECD have predicted the economy will grow again next year.

"In fact, the IMF estimates that the world economy will grow 5.4 percent. This is a very high estimate, in my opinion. World Bank 4.2 percent. OECD 2.8 to 5.2 percent," Jokowi said.

President Jokowi was also optimistic that the Indonesian economy would grow above that number. This is because the Indonesian economy is currently not as bad as in other countries.

"I think if this estimate is correct, then we will be in an economic position that should be above world economic growth. And Indonesia is also projected to be included in the group with the fastest economic recovery after China," Jokowi said. 

Jokowi mentioned this good news to be thankful for. However, he reminded his staff to stay alert to the second wave of Covid-19. (*)
