TRIBUNBATAM.id - World Mangrove Day is a momentum for the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) to target mangrove rehabilitation of 200 hectares (Ha) this year.
The area of mangroves in Indonesia reaches 3.49 million hectares, but 52 percent or 1.82 million hectares of Indonesian mangroves are damaged.
Knowing these conditions, Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo promised to replant the entire coast with mangrove seeds.
"I guarantee, in the future there will be no more mangrove forests for aquaculture ponds. Instead, we will plant the coast with mangroves to maintain sustainability," he said through his Instagram video, Sunday (07/26/2020).
Meanwhile, Director General of Marine Space Management (PRL) Aryo Hanggono said that this year the KKP had a target to improve the condition of mangrove ecosystems by planting 200 hectares of mangrove in 12 locations.

"One of the priority locations is in East Lampung with a planned planting area of 40 hectares, namely Margasari Village and Sriminosari Village. "The rehabilitation of mangrove plants in this location aims to ward off abrasion and improve marine ecosystems," he said in a written statement.
Not only that, the location is also expected to become an ecotourism area that can provide alternative livelihoods for coastal communities in East Lampung Regency.
Aryo added, in the 2020-2024 National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the KKP was mandated to carry out coastal rehabilitation through mangrove planting of 1800 hectares.
Another effort undertaken by the KKP in supporting mangrove rehabilitation is to facilitate the location of mangroves through the development of coastal ecosystem learning and tracking centers that will be built in 10 districts / cities in 2021. (*)
