Covid-19 Increasingly 'Craze' in KEPRI, DPD RI Member Asks Local Governments Increase the PCR Test

TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - The number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia, especially in the Riau Islands Province (Kepri) is still increasing.

For Batam City itself, the number of Covid-19 cases as of October 1, 2020 has reached 1,650 cases.

The number of Covid-19 cases continues to roll and has an increasingly impact on the economic condition of the community. 

Member of Committee I DPD RI, Haripinto Tanuwidjaja emphasized the local government to increase tracing efforts with PCR tests. 

According to him, regional economic conditions can recover, if the government is able to control the spread of the Corona virus.

Thus, controlling the Covid-19 outbreak is one of the main focuses that must be considered by the government. 

"The first key is controlling the Covid-19 pandemic. If Covid-19 can be controlled, people can return to their activities," said Haripinto, Thursday (1/10/2020). 

Apart from emphasizing on increasing the tracing process, he also suggested that the government should look for other alternative forms of Covid-19 tests apart from the rapid test and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test which are often used.

In this case, he gave an example of India which has implemented an antigen test which is considered faster and more accurate.

Choosing other alternatives besides PCR test and rapid test can consider the aspects of cost and efficiency of the process.

The government was also asked to find a solution to reduce the cost of the swab test, which is still considered expensive if done independently. 

With an affordable cost, it can make it easier for parties who need routine tests because of their high mobility.

"In India, there is an Antigen test, faster and more accurate, the price is cheap, only 5 USD per test.

We also have a plan so that the price of this swab test can be lowered immediately, "added Haripinto.
