TRIBUNBATAM.id, BATAM - Taman Wisata Alam (TWA) Mukakuning Batam will be developed into a forest-based ecotourism area. This 270 hectare land will be used as a tourist spot such as a jogging track, bicycle path.

In addition, there is a place for pedestrians who will connect from one forest to another, and 10 percent will be made of physical structures.

In the construction design, investors will build eco-friendly cotages, tourism centers, monitoring towers, camping areas, and so on.

The Mukakuning Nature Tourism Area will be built by PT Lise Batam Rimba Lestari and is planned to start construction in 2020.

The development budget is likely to reach Rp. 1 to Rp. 2 trillion from investors according to the design.

"In 2015, there was a permit from the Ministry of Forestry which was signed through an online Single Submission. 5 years they have prepared access to entry," said ad-interim Mayor of Batam, Syamsul Bahrum, Wednesday (11/11/2020).

He admitted that in the construction process, trees should not be felled. Even trees as large as 20 centimeters are not allowed to be cut.

"The design must follow natural culture," he said.

So far, he continued, the Amdal has been completed, the site design and building design also completed. The company was looking for access to the area around 100 to 200 meters.

"This forest area will be used as an ecotourism forest area which will be very closely guarded," he said.

Syamsul admitted that this week, his party would give permission to the company to continue the discussion. He admitted that so far the problem was access to the tourist area.

He hopes that investors will not cut trees carelessly and pay attention to community development. Even though there are no residents, investors must pay attention to the flora and fauna habitat.

He added, this natural tourist spot will later attract foreign tourists who come to Batam such as the Batam Botanical Gardens.

"The process of entering is like we entered Ancol. It depends on what facilities are provided," he said.
